On the day before Thanksgiving, November 22, 2023, a family that had sought refuge in the United States from war-torn South Sudan experienced a devastating tragedy in Essex, Maryland. Philip Pasingda, a 22-year-old male, was visiting his younger brother when he became the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the unit block of Glenwood Road, where Baltimore County Police officers responded to a call about the shooting.
