On July 4, 2024, a tragic incident occurred during a neighborhood Fourth of July celebration in Temple Hills, Maryland. Six-year-old Ahsan Payton of Washington, D.C., was shot at a community gathering in the 2500 block of Akron Street just before 8 p.m. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound.
