On May 5, 2024, at approximately 11:20 p.m., Prince George's County Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting on Southern Avenue near the D.C.-Maryland state line in Temple Hills, Maryland. Upon arrival, they discovered 22-year-old Louis Smith Jr. of Greenbelt inside a stairwell of an apartment building, suffering from gunshot wounds.
