In the quiet early morning hours of June 2, 2018, a violent confrontation shattered the peace in a Camp Springs, Maryland neighborhood, leaving one man dead and another critically injured. The deceased was identified as 35-year-old Damon Palmer of Washington, D.C. The tragic incident unfolded around 12:50 a.m. in the 6200 block of Maxwell Drive, where police responded to a report of a shooting.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Palmer outside, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response from emergency personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene. A second male victim was also found with gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The investigation into the double shooting quickly led police to a suspect who was present at the residence.
Authorities arrested 38-year-old Marcus Burns of Camp Springs in connection with the fatal shooting.
The investigation revealed a tense domestic situation as the motive for the violence. Burns was the stepfather of Damon Palmer's biological daughter. An argument between the two men escalated, culminating in Burns shooting both Palmer and the second individual. During questioning, Burns admitted to his involvement in the shootings.
