In the Hillcrest Heights area of Prince George's County, a dispute on a Saturday afternoon culminated in the tragic death of 37-year-old Anthony George Rollins Jr. The Black/African American male was found by police officers who were called to the 2200 block of Dawn Lane around 3:30 p.m. on May 27, 2006, to investigate a shooting. Rollins, a resident of the 7700 block of Kipling Parkway, had sustained a gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported Rollins to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead. As investigators began their work at the scene of the shooting, a man approached them and confessed to his involvement in the incident.
The man, identified as 42-year-old Charles Jackson Jr. of Dawn Lane, informed the officers that he had shot Rollins during an altercation. Based on his statement, police arrested Jackson and subsequently charged him with first-degree murder.
