In the summer of 2024, a burst of gunfire shattered the afternoon quiet of a Greenbelt, Maryland, apartment complex, leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. On July 29, at approximately 1:55 p.m., police responded to the 8500 block of Greenbelt Road after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Jordan Swan of Bowie in the parking lot, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Swan, a male, was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The initial investigation into the homicide began immediately, with detectives from the Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit taking the lead. As they worked to piece together the events of that afternoon, a reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. The motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, as investigators began the arduous task of identifying the suspect or suspects involved.
Months later, a significant breakthrough in the case came with the arrest of three individuals. The suspects were identified as 22-year-old Samuel Nnam of Upper Marlboro, a 17-year-old from Hyattsville, and another 17-year-old from Greenbelt. Despite their ages, both juvenile suspects were charged as adults in connection with the murder of Jordan Swan. The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooting occurred during a robbery and that Nnam and Swan were known to each other.
All three suspects are now facing serious charges, including first and second-degree murder, as well as other related charges for their alleged roles in the fatal shooting. Following their arrests, they were taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward and speak with detectives.
