George A. Malcolm, a 24-year-old deputy sheriff and head instructor at the Lorton Valley School, tragically died on April 6, 1905, in Lorton, Virginia. His death was the result of a violent encounter while attempting to arrest a man who had been harassing female students at the school. Malcolm had sworn out a warrant against the suspect, Joseph Leanto, a railroad worker, and went with two citizens to arrest him near Lorton.
