In the winter of 2010, a violent encounter irrevocably altered the course of a man's life and left a community searching for answers. On the evening of December 22, Damon Norman Dee Washington, a 31-year-old male, was shot in the 9100 block of Edmonston Court in Greenbelt, Maryland. The attack left him with grave injuries that he would battle for the next year.
Following the shooting, Washington was admitted to the Gladys Spellman Specialty Care Unit. For nearly a year, he fought the devastating complications stemming from the gunshot wound. Despite the extensive medical care, Damon Washington succumbed to his injuries on December 25, 2011.
The Maryland State Medical Examiner's office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
The Greenbelt Police Department launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. However, the case has remained unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Damon Norman Dee Washington. Law enforcement officials have periodically sought information from the public in the hopes of developing new leads that could bring a resolution to the case and provide justice for Washington and his family. The investigation remains open.
