In the early evening of March 10, 2018, the life of 31-year-old Gabriel Hernandez Dreke was tragically cut short in Greenbelt, Maryland. Responding to a call about a man down in the 6100 block of Breezewood Court at approximately 8:24 p.m., Greenbelt police officers discovered Dreke suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to Prince George's Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The initial investigation did not immediately yield information about a suspect.
The investigation into the male victim's death progressed, and within a week, authorities identified and apprehended a suspect. On March 17, 2018, Greenbelt police arrested 29-year-old Lenard James Grayton in connection with the fatal shooting. Grayton, who had no fixed address, was taken into custody around noon in the 7200 block of Hanover Drive. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and other related offenses for his alleged role in Dreke's death.
