In the late hours of a Sunday evening, tragedy struck in Greenbelt, Maryland, forever altering the lives of two families. On December 15, 2024, 18-year-old Rasheed Davis, a male from Germantown, was shot and killed in an incident that also left another man critically wounded. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. in the 8500 block of Greenbelt Road.
When Prince George's County police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered both Davis and the other victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The two were immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Rasheed Davis was pronounced dead. The second victim was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
The investigation into the shooting quickly began, with homicide detectives working to piece together the events of that fatal night. Initially, a reward of up to $25,000 was offered for any information that could lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting took place during a drug transaction. It was also believed that the suspect and Rasheed Davis were not acquainted with each other prior to the incident.
Days after the shooting, a breakthrough in the case was announced. The Prince George's County Police Homicide Unit arrested 20-year-old Jaiden Thomas of Silver Spring in connection with the fatal shooting. Thomas was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges, for his alleged role in the death of Rasheed Davis. Following his arrest, Jaiden Thomas was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections.
