A 14-year-old male, Carltin Bayong, lost his life in a drive-by shooting in Greenbelt, Maryland, on the afternoon of Sunday, October 5, 2025. Originally from Cameroon, Bayong was a student at Eleanor Roosevelt High School and had been entrusted to the care of a guardian in the United States by his parents, who hoped for a better future for him.
The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. in the vicinity of Breezewood Court and Cherrywood Terrace.
Officers from the Greenbelt Police Department arrived at the scene to find Bayong with a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to an area hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The shooting has been described by law enforcement as a targeted attack.
Witnesses reported seeing a silver Infiniti with dark tinted windows and no front license plate driving at high speed in the area. It is believed that this vehicle carried multiple occupants who fired several shots at a group of youths, striking Bayong. The car then sped away from the location. As of now, the investigation into Carltin Bayong's death is ongoing. Authorities have not yet publicly identified or apprehended any suspects involved in the shooting. The police are continuing to gather evidence and have asked the public for any information that might lead to an arrest.
