In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Kansas City, Kansas, the life of 44-year-old Jimmie Clark Jr., a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short. On September 17, 2024, police responded to reports of a person lying in the street near the intersection of North 7th Street and Parallel Parkway. Upon their arrival at approximately 10:42 p.m., officers discovered Clark with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
Paramedics were called to the scene, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting near Jersey Creek Park led to a swift arrest. Two days after the incident, the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department took 53-year-old Willie Lee Rucker into custody. Rucker, also a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, was subsequently charged in connection with Clark's death. The charges filed against him were severe, including second-degree murder, discharging a weapon at an occupied vehicle, and possession of a weapon by a felon.
Following his arrest, Rucker was booked into the Wyandotte County jail, with his bond set at $250,000. Court records revealed that Rucker had a significant criminal history, with previous convictions for charges that included child torture, assault, and domestic battery.
