On the evening of May 30, 2020, a tragic event unfolded on the North 57th Street exit ramp from westbound Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Kansas, forever altering the lives of a local family. Anthony Michael Johnson, a 38-year-old Black / African American man, was found inside a vehicle, having succumbed to fatal gunshot wounds. Alongside him was his wife, 41-year-old Talisha Fay Johnson, who had also been fatally shot.
The couple, residents of Overland Park, were discovered by police around 8:50 p.m.
Miraculously, two children who were also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting were found unharmed. The incident, which authorities believe stemmed from a domestic dispute, cut short the life of a man known to his loved ones and community. Anthony, born and raised in Kansas City, Kansas, was a graduate of Wyandotte High School and worked as a roofer. He and Talisha had been married for ten years and shared a family of several children.
In the immediate aftermath of the tragic discovery, law enforcement officials took a suspect into custody at the scene. Isaiah Montez Taylor, 21 years old and also from Overland Park, was arrested in connection with the deaths. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated endangerment of a child, and criminal discharge of a firearm. The community was left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a husband and father as the legal process against the alleged perpetrator began.
