In the early morning hours of January 20, 2023, the life of 34-year-old Alfred Jerome King, a male from Alexandria, Louisiana, was tragically cut short. At approximately 1:22 AM, officers from the Alexandria Police Department were dispatched to the vicinity of 12th Street and Magnolia Street after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. King lying on the ground in front of an apartment complex in the 500 block of Magnolia Street, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Medical personnel were quickly on the scene and transported him to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The investigation into the homicide was swiftly undertaken by Alexandria Police Detectives. Their efforts soon identified a suspect in the fatal shooting as 45-year-old Desmond Lamonte Clowers of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Based on the evidence gathered, a warrant was secured for Clowers's arrest on the charge of second-degree murder. The search for the suspect involved a multi-agency effort, with the Alexandria Police Department collaborating with the Louisiana State Police, the Baton Rouge Police Department, the Georgia State Police, the Cobb County Georgia Sheriff's Office, the US Marshals' Violent Offender Task Force, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
On the morning of February 8, 2023, the diligent work of law enforcement paid off when Desmond Lamonte Clowers was apprehended in Baton Rouge. He was arrested on the outstanding warrant for second-degree murder, as well as other local warrants. Following his arrest, Clowers was extradited to Alexandria, where he was formally charged and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. A judge subsequently set his bond at $2,000,000. The investigation into the death of Alfred Jerome King was announced as ongoing.
