In the early morning hours of October 18, 2023, the life of 19-year-old De’Asia Dee Mullins, a Black female, was tragically cut short in Alexandria, Louisiana. Known to her loved ones as 'Dee,' she was found suffering from a fatal gunshot wound at a residence on West Sycamore Street. Emergency services responded to the scene following a shooting report that came in at approximately 12:42 AM.
Mullins was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation by the Alexandria Police Department swiftly pointed to the incident being related to domestic violence. In the wake of the shooting, authorities identified 25-year-old Alfred Rue IV as the suspect. A warrant was promptly issued for his arrest on serious charges, including one count of second-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. The search for Rue began as police sought assistance from the public to locate him.
Following the issuance of the arrest warrant, Alfred Rue IV eventually turned himself in to the authorities. He was subsequently jailed with a bond set at $1,000,000. It was revealed that Rue had a history of domestic violence-related arrests. His prior charges included domestic abuse battery, illegal carrying of a weapon, and violation of a protective order in March 2021. Further legal troubles for Rue included charges of stalking, cyberstalking, home invasion, and aggravated assault in February 2022, as well as additional stalking and protective order violation charges in June of the same year. The case against him for the death of De’Asia Mullins is currently an ongoing investigation.
