On a Saturday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the life of 17-year-old Nykobia Keller, a female and mother to a four-month-old baby boy, was tragically cut short. On February 25, 2023, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Keller was driving on Interstate 110 with a passenger when another vehicle pulled alongside hers near the Hollywood Street exit. Gunfire erupted from the other car, striking Keller. Despite her injuries, she was able to pull her vehicle over to the side of the road before succumbing to her wounds at the scene. Fortunately, her passenger was unharmed in the attack.
Investigators with the Baton Rouge Police Department quickly determined that the shooting was not a random act of violence. Evidence suggested that Keller had been intentionally targeted and followed by her assailants. A week after her death, family and friends gathered to honor her memory, releasing blue balloons, her favorite color, into the sky. Her mother, Lisa Keller, vowed to be her daughter's voice and to tirelessly seek justice for her.
As of May 2024, the investigation into Nykobia Keller's murder remains ongoing, and her case is unsolved. The Baton Rouge Police Department has not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with her death. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the fatal shooting, urging anyone with knowledge of the crime to come forward. The motive behind the targeted killing also remains unclear to the public.
