On a Friday night in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 40-year-old Alfreda Mills was found inside her Kia vehicle, having been shot multiple times. The discovery was made around 10 p.m. on January 26, 2018, in the 800 block of South Boulevard near Iberville Street. Known affectionately as 'Freda,' she was a mother and grandmother.
In the wake of the tragedy, her long-time boyfriend, Leslie Washington, expressed his devastation.
He shared that Mills had been at a local casino earlier that evening and had won at least $700. The last communication he received from her was a text message at 8:47 p.m., in which she wrote, 'Baby, I'm on my way.' This was the last time he would hear from her before she was found deceased.
At the time of the initial investigation, Baton Rouge police had not identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. They urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Violent Crimes Unit. The case highlighted the ongoing issue of gun violence in the community. Alfreda Mills was preceded in death by a daughter, Antoinette Mills, and was survived by two sons and a daughter.
