Lieutenant Vickie Salassi Wax, aged 51, was a dedicated officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department, having served for 27 years. On May 22, 2004, she tragically lost her life in the line of duty. Vickie was attempting to handcuff a shoplifting suspect when a struggle ensued. During the altercation, she was shot with her own service weapon.
