In what was initially reported as a tragic accident, 20-year-old Akiyah Dorsey lost her life on June 16, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The young woman was fatally shot, and the initial account given to law enforcement by her 27-year-old boyfriend, Khalil Holmes, was that a handgun he had been handed accidentally discharged, leading to Dorsey's death. This preliminary information led to Holmes's arrest on a charge of negligent homicide.
