A promising life was tragically cut short on a Wednesday evening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when 15-year-old Au’mircle Mcelwee was fatally wounded in a shooting. The young female was inside her vehicle in the 5100 block of Oaklon Avenue at approximately 10 p.m. when the incident unfolded. It was reported that Mcelwee and the passengers in her car had an interaction with other individuals in the area just before the sound of gunfire pierced the night.
In the chaotic moments that
followed the shooting, the vehicle carrying the teenagers continued to move, striking street signs before finally coming to a stop in a nearby ditch at the intersection of Oaklon and Winchester Avenue. When emergency services arrived at the scene, Au’mircle Mcelwee was pronounced dead. The passengers who had been with her in the vehicle appeared to be unharmed. At the time, her family expressed their confusion, stating they did not know why she was in that particular neighborhood as she did not reside there.
The investigation into the senseless killing of the teenager led Baton Rouge Police detectives to identify a suspect. Several months later, authorities announced the arrest of 18-year-old Deon Winsey in connection with the shooting death of Au'mircle Mcelwee.
