LaQuincia Nanny Jackson, a 26-year-old African American woman, was fatally shot on January 23, 2021, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Known to her loved ones as 'Lady Q,' she was a college graduate and a rapper. The incident that claimed her life also resulted in the death of 33-year-old Fredrick Hollins. Their bodies were discovered by Baton Rouge Police at approximately 8:15 p.m. inside a residence on Earl Gros Avenue, both having sustained apparent gunshot wounds.
The double homicide occurred during a weekend that law enforcement described as unusually violent for the city.
In the wake of the killings, Jackson's family and friends held a balloon release to commemorate her life, releasing orange and pink balloons as music played. Her mother, Felicia Patterson, mourned her daughter, describing her as not just her child but also her friend and partner. The initial investigation into the double murder was ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of a suspect.
The investigation eventually led to the arrest of Brian Lavergne, who was identified as Jackson's ex-boyfriend. He was charged with the murders of both LaQuincia Jackson and Fredrick Hollins. Lavergne's first trial, which took place in October 2024, concluded with a hung jury, necessitating a second trial.
In August 2025, a jury found Brian Lavergne guilty of the murders. Subsequently, he was sentenced to two concurrent life sentences for the deaths of Jackson and Hollins. Following the conviction and sentencing, Lavergne's defense attorney stated his intention to appeal the verdict.
