In a tragic incident in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 16-year-old Darneisha Williams, a student at Broadmoor High School, died on Saturday, February 20, 2016. Her life was cut short by a gunshot wound to the head. The shooting occurred on Brady Street and was determined to be accidental.
The person responsible for the fatal shooting was a 16-year-old male relative of Williams.
Following the incident, he was taken into custody and faced charges of negligent injuring and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile. Authorities continued to investigate how the teenager came to be in possession of the gun. In the wake of the tragedy, grief counselors were made available at Broadmoor High School to support students and staff affected by the sudden loss of their classmate.
