In the early morning hours of April 21, 2022, the life of 32-year-old Jaci Rhea Bergeron was tragically cut short in a violent encounter at a Baton Rouge hotel. Police were called to the OYO Hotel on Gwenadele Avenue, just off Airline Highway, shortly after 1:30 a.m. to investigate reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Bergeron, who had been shot multiple times.
She succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The hotel where the fatal shooting occurred had been a known trouble spot, plagued by a history of violent crime. Law enforcement had been called to the location for numerous other incidents in the months leading up to Bergeron's death, including another shooting that left a victim wounded in the head. The investigation into Bergeron's homicide proceeded as authorities worked to identify the person responsible for her death.
Following an investigation, the Baton Rouge Police Department identified a suspect in the case. On Thursday, May 5, 2022, authorities arrested 34-year-old Justin Cuba in connection with the deadly shooting of Jaci Bergeron.
