Annette January, a 19-year-old African American female from Gary, Indiana, was a freshman athlete at Southern University in Louisiana. On April 10, 2016, she was fatally shot during an off-campus party in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The incident occurred when a verbal altercation broke out among a group of men at the party.
