In the early morning hours of April 10, 2023, the life of 49-year-old Consuelo O’Neal was tragically cut short in what Bossier City police have described as a murder-suicide. Officers were dispatched to a residence on McGregor Street following reports of a disturbance involving gunfire.
Upon their arrival, authorities discovered a grim scene. Inside the home, they found Ms. O'Neal, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Evidence at the scene indicated that the perpetrator had forced his way into the residence by kicking in the door. The investigation quickly identified the suspect as 44-year-old Broderick Giovannte Messer of Lewisville, Texas.
Investigators determined that Messer and O'Neal had been in a relationship that had recently ended on bad terms. In the backyard of the home, officers located Messer's body with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head; a firearm was found in his possession.
The preliminary investigation suggests that Messer, following the breakup, drove to O'Neal's home, forced his way inside, and shot her before taking his own life. Police have stated that there are no other suspects in this case, and with the sole suspect deceased, no charges are anticipated. This incident marked the first homicide in Bossier City for the year 2023.
