In the winter of 1999, a tragedy born from a long history of domestic turmoil unfolded in a hospital parking lot in Bossier City, Louisiana. Michelle Riley, a 38-year-old Caucasian woman, became a fatal victim of domestic violence on January 12th of that year. Her life was cut short when she was shot by her ex-boyfriend, Charles Salley, a paramedic with whom she had been involved in a protracted and volatile dispute.
