In the late afternoon of a Saturday in Shreveport, Louisiana, a sequence of events unfolded that culminated in the death of 18-year-old Martavious D. Henderson. On August 12, 2023, just after 5 p.m., Henderson, along with 19-year-old Anthony M. Lee and a third unidentified individual, entered a business in the 1900 block of Centenary Boulevard. What began as a reported robbery quickly escalated into a fatal confrontation.
According to investigators, the trio, armed with weapons, entered
the establishment and demanded items from the clerk. At one point during the commission of the crime, two of the men physically accosted the clerk, taking personal items including a handgun. As this was transpiring, two patrons who were inside the business managed to escape and retrieve weapons from their vehicle, a blue Chevrolet pickup truck.
As Henderson and his accomplices exited the store, they were met by the two armed patrons. An exchange of gunfire ensued between at least one of the customers and the robbery suspects. In the hail of bullets, both Henderson and Lee were struck. The third suspect, described as a Black male between 5'6' and 5'8' with a slender build, wearing a black hoodie and gray shorts, managed to flee the scene on foot and has not been identified.
When Shreveport Police arrived, they discovered a grim scene. One of the deceased was located inside the business, which sold tobacco products, phones, and cannabis-related items, while the other was found just outside. Both Martavious D. Henderson and Anthony M. Lee were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds. The Caddo Parish Coroner's office later officially identified them.
The Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit has continued to investigate the double homicide. They have publicly released images of the third suspect, seeking the public's assistance in identifying him. Detectives have also sought to identify and speak with the two patrons who were involved in the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to piece together the entirety of the events that led to the violent deaths of the two young men.
