In the early hours of a summer morning in Shreveport, Louisiana, a life was cut short in a violent encounter at a Texaco gas station. Danzeria O Farris Jr., a 32-year-old male, was shot multiple times on June 19, 2020. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The man responsible for the shooting was identified as Christopher Dooley, a rapper professionally known as Hurricane Chris.
The incident unfolded following an altercation between Farris and
Dooley. Dooley claimed he acted in self-defense, asserting that Farris was attempting to steal his 2016 Mercedes-Benz sedan. However, investigators who reviewed surveillance footage of the event stated that the video evidence did not support Dooley's self-defense claim. Further complicating matters for the rapper, the vehicle he was driving was later reported as stolen from Texas.
Following the shooting, Christopher Dooley was arrested and subsequently charged with second-degree murder and illegal possession of a stolen vehicle. In October 2020, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury indicted him on these charges. After his arrest, Dooley was released on a $500,000 bond. His legal team maintained his innocence, expressing confidence that a thorough investigation would clear his name.
The case proceeded to trial, where prosecutors presented their evidence and called several witnesses to the stand. The defense countered with their own witnesses, including Dooley himself, who took the stand to recount his version of the events that transpired on that fateful morning. After more than a week of testimony and legal arguments, the jury rendered its verdict. In March 2023, Christopher Dooley was acquitted of both the second-degree murder of Danzeria Farris Jr. and the charge of illegal possession of stolen things.
