In the early morning hours of December 23, 2023, just two days before Christmas, the life of 29-year-old Patrick Shaw Jr. was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. Shaw, a male resident of the city, was outside a home in the 1500 block of Oakdale Street in the Caddo Heights neighborhood when an altercation escalated into fatal violence.
The incident unfolded shortly after 1:45 a.m. during what was reported to be a house party.
An argument broke out, leading to Shaw being shot in the chest. Emergency services were called, and Shaw was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m. His identity was later confirmed by the Caddo Parish Coroner's office through fingerprint comparison. The death of Patrick Shaw Jr. marked the 74th homicide within Shreveport city limits and the 79th in Caddo Parish for the year 2023.
The Shreveport Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Their inquiries led them to identify 30-year-old Rickey Tyrone Loyd as the primary suspect in Shaw's death. On December 30, 2023, Loyd was taken into custody and booked into the Caddo Correctional Center. Subsequently, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury returned an indictment against Loyd, formally charging him with second-degree murder. A bond for Loyd was set at $5 million as the legal proceedings against him commenced.
