In the early hours of a Friday morning, on January 7, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Jacobe TiYon Hayes, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Shreveport, Louisiana. The incident unfolded just after 3 a.m. in the 1800 block of Patzman Street, located in the city's Caddo Heights neighborhood. Shreveport Police officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Hayes inside a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was immediately transported to Ochsner LSU Health for medical attention, but he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
The Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit promptly launched an investigation into the city's first homicide of the year. Detectives began canvassing the area for evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Through their diligent work, investigators were able to identify a suspect in the case.
Less than a week after the shooting, on January 12, 2022, authorities made an arrest. Members of the Shreveport Police and the U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force located and apprehended 19-year-old Latraveon Pouncy in the 2800 block of Curtis Lane. Following an interview with detectives, Pouncy was charged with one count of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Jacobe Hayes. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail. The investigation continued as authorities worked to understand the motive behind the incident that ended a young man's life.
