Jayve’us Williams, a 19-year-old Black man from Shreveport, Louisiana, was killed on Sunday, September 13, 2026, during a violent weekend that left several people dead across the city. Late that afternoon, emergency crews were sent to the 6600 block of Quilen Road, near Sunset Acres Park and the intersection of Quilen Dead End and Marquette Avenue. The call came in at approximately 4:40 p.m., bringing Shreveport firefighters, police officers and other emergency personnel to the area. Williams was discovered lying in a field near the park with multiple gunshot wounds. One of his wounds was initially described as a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene and was pronounced dead shortly after emergency personnel arrived.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office subsequently identified Williams as the person killed in the shooting. Authorities determined that he had been shot several times, but investigators did not immediately disclose what happened before the gunfire, how Williams came to be in the field, or whether he had been confronted there or shot somewhere nearby. Police treated his death as a homicide and began working to reconstruct the events leading to the shooting. Williams’s killing was one of five homicides recorded in Shreveport during the weekend of September 12-14, a particularly deadly period for the city.

Shreveport police later said the violent incidents from that weekend were separate cases and that investigators believed the people involved in the killings knew one another rather than being strangers randomly attacked. Police did not publicly identify anyone as Williams’s killer, however, and no specific motive in his death was released. Detectives indicated that they were using surveillance cameras, records and technology available through the department’s real-time crime center as they worked the weekend homicide investigations. Police also expressed confidence that the cases could be solved and that arrests would eventually be made.

As of September 24, 2026, no publicly reported arrest, criminal charge, named suspect, trial or conviction had been announced in connection with Williams’s death. Reports continued to describe investigators as searching for the person or people responsible and attempting to determine what led to the shooting. Authorities asked anyone with information about Williams’s killing to contact Shreveport police or Shreveport-Caddo Crime Stoppers as the homicide investigation remained open.
