On a January afternoon, James T. White, a 71-year-old African American man, was waiting at a bus stop in Shreveport, Louisiana, when his life was abruptly ended. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on January 23, 2025, in the 500 block of East 70th Street, located in the Cedar Grove neighborhood. White was fatally shot in what became the third homicide in Shreveport and Caddo Parish that year.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported White to Ochsner LSU Health
hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 3:27 p.m. The Shreveport Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the shooting, and an autopsy was ordered to confirm the cause of death. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest in the case.
The investigation led to a significant development several months later. On April 30, 2025, a Caddo Parish Grand Jury handed down an indictment against 26-year-old Dandre Marquis Webb of Shreveport. Webb was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of James T. White. At the time of the indictment, Webb was already incarcerated at the Caddo Correctional Center. A Veterans' Honor Ceremony and graveside services for James T. White were held on April 14, 2025, at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville.
