In the early morning hours of August 19, 2023, the life of Drapper Levar Anthony Sr., a 44-year-old African American man, was tragically cut short. His body was discovered by Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office deputies around 3:00 a.m. on the back porch of a residence in the 900 block of Orange Grove Drive in New Iberia, Louisiana. Mr. Anthony, a resident of nearby Lafayette, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office's Bureau of Investigations is actively
handling the case, treating it as a homicide. Despite their ongoing efforts, authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The investigation remains open as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for Mr. Anthony's death.
Drapper Anthony was known as a devoted family man. He was a husband to Darnekia Anthony and a father and grandfather. Remembered for his joyful spirit and the love he had for his family and community, he worked as a respected truck driver and owner. A Celebration of Life service was held in his honor on August 26, 2023, at Our Savior's Church in Broussard, Louisiana, where friends and family gathered to mourn their loss.
