On the evening of October 1, 2023, SheMarr Louis “Shep” Sheppard, a 20-year-old African American male from New Iberia, Louisiana, was fatally shot during an attempted car theft outside a convenience store in the 1400 block of Iberia Street. According to police reports, SheMarr was inside the store when a vehicle arrived, and one of its occupants exited and attempted to steal his car.
