In the late afternoon of May 12, 2024, a day filled with celebration turned into a scene of tragedy in New Iberia, Louisiana. Daiquan Branch, a 21-year-old Black male, was at a birthday party on Jordan Street, surrounded by friends and family. The joyous atmosphere was shattered around 5:30 p.m. when gunshots rang out, causing chaos and panic among the attendees, which included children who had been playing nearby.
