In the early hours of Easter Sunday, a dispute on Pisciotta Street in Alexandria, Louisiana, turned fatal, claiming the life of 49-year-old Jessie Tatum III. On March 31, 2024, at approximately 3:08 AM, Alexandria Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 4100 block of the street. Upon arrival, they discovered Tatum, who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
His daughter later described him as a kind-hearted and selfless individual who always put others before himself.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to identify two brothers, Shaheem and Jarvis Dontay White, as the primary suspects. Both men had a history of legal troubles, including previous accusations of attempted murder since relocating to Alexandria from Gastonia, North Carolina. Their criminal records also included charges such as firearm possession by a convicted felon and illegal use of weapons.
On April 12, 2024, authorities apprehended 21-year-old Shaheem White in North Carolina. He was arrested on a warrant from the Alexandria Police Department and faced charges of second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and illegal use of a weapon. He remained in North Carolina awaiting extradition. A few days later, on April 16, his 29-year-old brother, Jarvis Dontay White, voluntarily surrendered to the Alexandria Police Department. He was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center on charges of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $1,100,000.
