On the evening of Friday, December 12, 2025, a violent incident occurred in the 100 block of Tennessee Avenue in Alexandria, Louisiana, resulting in the death of a 32-year-old Black male named Antonio Nicols. At approximately 9:30 p.m., the Alexandria Police Department was dispatched to the scene following reports of gunshots. Witnesses in the area later described hearing between five and six shots fired during the disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers learned that Nicols had sustained gunshot wounds and had already been transported to a local hospital via a private vehicle rather than an ambulance. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the medical facility.
Detectives from the Alexandria Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation, collecting evidence and interviewing community members at the scene on Tennessee Avenue. The inquiry quickly led authorities to identify a suspect in connection with the shooting. Police issued a public appeal for assistance in locating 28-year-old Jorion Handerson, a resident of Alexandria, warning that he should be considered armed and dangerous. An active warrant for second-degree murder was issued for his arrest as investigators worked to track his whereabouts.
The pursuit of the suspect came to an end the following day when Handerson surrendered to authorities. According to reports from the suspect's family, the surrender was coordinated with an Alexandria Police detective, and Handerson turned himself in without incident around 10:15 a.m. He was subsequently booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center. Records indicated that his bond was set at $1,000,000, and he remained in custody facing the charge of second-degree murder as the legal proceedings commenced.
