Eugene Joseph Pearce, born in 1892 in St. Mary's Parish, Louisiana, was a Prohibition Agent with the Bureau of Prohibition. On December 18, 1931, while patrolling near Alexandria, Louisiana, Agent Pearce and his colleagues, Agents Paul Hornaday and W. H. Chilton, observed Chester Campbell driving a Ford Touring car at a high rate of speed. Campbell, a known violator, was accompanied by three other suspects.
