In the heart of downtown Louisville, on a Sunday afternoon, the life of Chad Lajuan Smith Sr. was tragically cut short. On January 21, 2024, the 38-year-old Black man was found in the 400 block of South Fourth Street, having been shot multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene, a vibrant area typically bustling with activity near Fourth Street Live!.
His death was quickly ruled a homicide by the Louisville Metro Police Department prompting an immediate and intensive investigation into the violent affair.
The investigation moved swiftly, and within a week, a suspect was in custody. On January 27, 2024, the LMPD, through the combined efforts of their Homicide, Violent Crime, and K9 Units, apprehended Jordan Fields. The arrest took place in the 2600 block of Garland Avenue after Fields led officers on a foot pursuit. His capture brought a swift sense of resolution to the initial phase of the investigation into Smith's untimely death.
Following his arrest, Jordan Fields was lodged in the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and faced a litany of serious charges. These included Murder for his alleged role in the death of Chad Lajuan Smith Sr., as well as Felon in Possession of a Handgun, Fleeing and Evading Police, Resisting Arrest, Assault 3rd on a Police Officer, and Assault on a Service Animal 2nd Degree. The legal proceedings against Fields are set to unfold, marking the next chapter in the quest for justice for Smith and his grieving family and friends.
