In the summer of 2021, the life of Andre Lamont Steadmon, Sr., a 42-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in Louisville, Kentucky. On the afternoon of Saturday, June 12, officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of West Hill Street in the Park Hill neighborhood following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival around 1:45 p.m., they discovered Mr. Steadmon deceased at the scene, a victim of gunfire.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity. In the immediate aftermath, the LMPD's Homicide Unit launched an investigation, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this act of violence. Initially, investigators had no suspects.
The investigation into Andre Steadmon's murder continued for months. As detectives pieced together the events of that fatal day, the community was left mourning another life lost to gun violence. The case saw a significant breakthrough when the Louisville Metro Police Department identified and apprehended two individuals in connection with the crime. The first suspect, Joseph Hale, aged 29 at the time, was charged in the case. Subsequently, a second suspect, 27-year-old Anthony Ralston, was taken into custody.
The arrests brought a measure of hope for justice for Andre Steadmon and his grieving family and friends. Anthony Ralston was charged with complicity to commit murder. Joseph Hale faced multiple charges, including murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and being a persistent felony offender.
