Summary based on 11 sources
Jayson Anthony Manookian, a 21-year-old male, was a fun-loving and devoted son, grandson, brother, and friend. Known for a smile that could light up a room and a contagious laugh, he was considered the definition of a true friend and, most importantly, his sister's protector.

In the early morning hours of June 18, 2024, around 3 a.m., Jayson Manookian was at the Greenwood Boat Ramp in southwest Louisville. An argument reportedly broke out between Manookian and a group of individuals. During the confrontation, Manookian was fatally shot. Louisville Metro Police Department officers responded to the scene and found Manookian with a gunshot wound. They administered aid before he was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Another man was also shot and injured in the same incident but was expected to survive.

The investigation into the shooting led to the arrests of two individuals. James O. Reece, 21, was arrested a few days after the incident. He was identified as a suspect through his vehicle. When police attempted to stop him, he initially fled before being apprehended. Reece later admitted to being in a verbal argument with a group at the boat ramp and confronting Manookian. He also admitted to discarding the handgun, which authorities have not recovered. Reece has been charged with murder, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

A few weeks after the shooting, a juvenile male was also arrested in connection with Manookian's death. Due to his age, his identity has not been publicly released. The juvenile faces charges of murder, first-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of a handgun by a minor.
