In the early evening of September 24, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the calm in Louisville, Kentucky's Park Hill neighborhood, leaving a local musician and beloved family man dead. Marion Richard Caldwell III, a 34-year-old Black male known to many by his nickname 'Slowdown,' was discovered with gunshot wounds around 9 p.m. on Dixie Highway near Wilson Avenue.
Despite the immediate response of the Louisville Metro Police Department, Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Born and raised in Louisville, Caldwell was the youngest of seven siblings and a devoted father to ten children. He was known for his passion for music, his love for cars and fashion, and his unwavering loyalty to his friends and family.
