In the early morning hours of August 10, 2020, in Louisville, Kentucky, a discovery was made that would forever alter the lives of one family. Velvin Smith, a 29-year-old Black male, was found inside a vehicle at the intersection of Cane Run Road and Crums Lane, the victim of a fatal shooting. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office pronounced him dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
Louisville Metro Police officers who responded to the call also found another man at the scene who had
been shot and was in critical condition. He was immediately transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Investigators have stated that they do not believe the two men shot one another, suggesting the involvement of at least one outside party.
The case was taken on by the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit, which opened an investigation into the shooting. In the years that have followed, no arrests have been publicly announced, and no suspects have been named in connection with the murder of Velvin Smith. The police have encouraged anyone with information to come forward and have provided an anonymous tip line to aid in the investigation.
