In the early hours of New Year's Day 2024, the life of 42-year-old Jasmine Ivy-Dede was tragically cut short in Indianapolis. She was discovered, alongside Indianapolis firefighter Justin Boyd II, inside a pickup truck that had crashed at the intersection of Michigan Road and Grandview Drive. Initially appearing as a single-vehicle accident, the grim reality of the situation soon became apparent to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers who responded to the scene shortly after
5:45 a.m. Both Ivy-Dede and Boyd were found to have sustained gunshot wounds, leading investigators to believe they were shot before the crash.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led to a suspect. Jason Dante Lapsley, the 52-year-old brother of Justin Boyd, was arrested later the same day. He was subsequently charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his brother and Jasmine Ivy-Dede. Jasmine Ivy-Dede was remembered by her daughter, Amara Ivy, as a magical person who loved to sing and dance.
