On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, a gathering of friends on the northwest side of Indianapolis, Indiana, turned tragic resulting in the death of 16-year-old Nathaniel Labissiere. The teenager had been spending the afternoon at a residence located on Braemar Drive, near the intersection of 46th Street and Eagle Creek Parkway. What began as a casual hangout among youths involving photography and socializing shifted when a firearm was introduced into the setting.

detailed that the group was in a bedroom handling a. 22-caliber Glock 44 handgun. During the interaction, 18-year-old Jakari Bibbs, who was present at the home, allegedly pointed the weapon at Labissiere. According to reports provided to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Labissiere verbally objected to the action, telling Bibbs, 'Don't do that.' Despite the warning, Bibbs pulled the trigger, discharging a round that struck Labissiere in the throat. Bibbs later told detectives that he believed the firearm was unloaded at the time he fired it.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but the injuries proved fatal. Following an investigation into the circumstances of the shooting, police arrested Jakari Bibbs on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged him with reckless homicide and pointing a firearm.
