In the early morning hours of July 14, 2023, the life of 27-year-old Demond Malik Marsh was tragically cut short in St. Marys, Georgia. A male resident of the town, Marsh was found on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound when officers from the St. Marys Police Department arrived at the Cumberland Oaks Apartment complex around 7:44 a.m. He was immediately life-flighted to UF Health Shands in Jacksonville, Florida, for emergency medical treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Demond Malik Marsh succumbed to his injuries and passed away shortly after 2:00 p.m. that same day. His death was described as unexpected in his obituary.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect. Emanuel Arthur Johnson, a 24-year-old man also from St. Marys, was identified as the individual allegedly responsible for Marsh's death. Within approximately two hours of the initial police response, Johnson was located and taken into custody through a joint effort by the St. Marys Police Department and the Camden County Sheriff's Office.
Following his arrest, Emanuel Arthur Johnson was charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the fatal shooting of Demond Malik Marsh. He was subsequently incarcerated at the Camden County Jail in Woodbine, Georgia, to await legal proceedings. A memorial service for Demond Malik Marsh was held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel.
