In the fading daylight of a Monday evening in Lithonia, Georgia, a dispute that began over a simple request for water escalated into a fatal encounter. On September 30, 2019, Jermaine Bradley, a 29-year-old male, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Subway restaurant on Panola Road. He was an unintended victim in a confrontation that did not initially involve him.
The incident began when a customer, Jeremiah Furlow, became embroiled in an argument with a Subway employee. The disagreement reportedly started after the employee denied Furlow a cup of water because he had not made a purchase. The verbal altercation spilled out into the parking lot where Furlow allegedly drew a weapon. In response, the Subway employee, who was also armed, fired at both Furlow and Bradley.
Jermaine Bradley was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene. Furlow sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Following the investigation, authorities did not press charges against the Subway employee, who claimed to have acted in self-defense. However, Jeremiah Furlow was arrested and subsequently charged with murder. The rationale behind the charge was that his actions directly led to the death of Jermaine Bradley.
