On November 15, 2015, the community of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was shaken by a violent incident involving Quinton David Combs, a 24-year-old Black/African American male who resided in the area. The events unfolded on the south side of the city, a neighborhood that had been experiencing a troubling rise in gun violence during that period. Quinton, known to his friends and family for his easygoing and funny personality, became the target of a shooting that would ultimately cut his life short.
He was a graduate of Cape Central High School and had deep roots in both Missouri and Tennessee, having been born in Martin, Tennessee, before moving to Cape Girardeau.
Following the shooting, Quinton was rushed to Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical personnel to save him, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away that same Sunday. His death left a profound void in the lives of his loved ones, including his mother, Felice Roberson, his father, David Combs, and his two young children, Aliyah and Koran. In the days that followed, the grieving family gathered for services at LaCroix United Methodist Church, where they remembered him as a loving son and a proud father who had enjoyed football and wrestling during his school years. He was later laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery in Paris, Tennessee.
The investigation into the murder immediately faced significant hurdles. Law enforcement officials struggled to gather substantial leads, hindered primarily by a lack of cooperation from the public. Police reports indicated that despite the incident occurring in a populated area, witnesses were reluctant to come forward, creating a wall of silence that stalled the pursuit of justice. The local authorities expressed frustration over this 'no-snitch' culture, which prevented them from identifying the assailant or assailants responsible for the fatal gunfire.
Years have passed since the tragedy, and the case remains unresolved. To date, there have been no arrests made and no suspects have been publicly named or charged in connection with the death of Quinton David Combs. The file remains open as a cold case, with police continuing to urge anyone with information to break their silence.
