On April 14, 2017, the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to a violent incident that resulted in the death of 32-year-old Jeremy Guyton. Officers were conducting a routine patrol in the area when they were flagged down by a surviving victim who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. This initial contact led law enforcement to discover a second victim, later identified as Guyton, in the vicinity of Bloomfield and Christine streets in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Upon locating
Jeremy Guyton, authorities determined that he had sustained fatal injuries. The Cape County Coroner arrived at the scene and pronounced him deceased. The investigation immediately focused on the circumstances surrounding the shooting which had left one man dead and another injured. The surviving victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while detectives worked to secure the scene and identify the perpetrator responsible for the violence.
Law enforcement efforts quickly identified a suspect in connection with the homicide. Tiwan Page, a 29-year-old resident of Sikeston, Missouri, was taken into custody following the investigation. Authorities brought multiple serious charges against Page, including one count of murder in the first degree for the death of Guyton. Additional charges filed against the suspect included two counts of armed criminal action, one count of assault in the first degree regarding the surviving victim, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
