On April 14, 2017, the Cape Girardeau Police Department responded to a violent incident that resulted in the death of 32-year-old Jeremy Guyton. Officers were conducting a routine patrol in the area when they were flagged down by a surviving victim who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. This initial contact led law enforcement to discover a second victim, later identified as Guyton, in the vicinity of Bloomfield and Christine streets in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
