On March 28, 2018, 18-year-old male Quincy R. Lucious III was fatally injured during a violent altercation in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The incident occurred at an apartment complex located in the 2000 block of Independence Street. Authorities were alerted to the situation and responded to the scene, initially discovering one deceased individual inside the residence.
Investigation by the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad revealed that Lucious had sustained gunshot wounds
during the event and had been transported by private vehicle to a nearby hospital before law enforcement arrived. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at the medical facility. The officers at the scene identified the man found deceased in the apartment as 20-year-old Leslie C. Williams.
Police eventually determined that the deaths were the result of a mutual exchange of gunfire between Lucious and Williams. Evidence suggested that the two men had shot one another during the confrontation. Because both individuals involved in the lethal exchange perished from their injuries, law enforcement did not seek additional suspects for the homicides, and no arrests were made in direct connection to the act of the shooting itself. The case was effectively closed with the conclusion that the two men were responsible for each other's deaths.
